FAQ’s
Q: How much energy does Lunescent save?
A: Dimming in response to moonlight saves around 15% of energy, depending on weather. Combining this with efficient LEDs, lower lighting levels, and optimized central controls can give energy savings of 70-80% over conventional HID lights.
Q: How are they better than ordinary streetlights?
Q: Where can Lunescent lighting be implemented?
A: Our first are designed for open, low or no-traffic area such as parks, walkways, and low-use parking lots. Future products will be developed for low-density residential streets as well.
Q: What are the regulatory issues?
A: Cities set their own lighting standards, most according to recommended levels set by the Illumination Engineering Society of North America, a lighting trade association. Most cities light streets and public areas well over the recommended levels, although this is changing. Cities often have different lighting zones, with less light required for low-traffic areas, parks, and open spaces.
Q: What about safety?
A: Many studies, including a comprehensive US study by the Department of Justice, have found little or no correlation between lighting levels and public safety. In fact, excessive lighting can diminish safety by creating excessive glare and shadows.
Q: Who can buy Lunescent lights?
A: Early adopters will be architects, urban planners, and progressive cities and private developers. As the market develops, a larger market share will come from municipalities.
